Admiral Edward Russel’s Party.

Admiral Edward Russel’s Party.

On Christmas Day, 1694, there was a young boy paddling a very small canoe in a very large garden fountain.

The fountain was not filled with water. No, it was filled with over 2600 liters of a punch. This little bowl of punch consisted of 250 gallons of brandy, 125 gallons of wine, 20 gallons of lime juice and 1400 pounds of sugar.

These poor canoe paddlers would keep mixing the punch with the paddles and giving drinks with a ladle to all the party goers. Wouldn’t that be a chore! But due to dizziness from the alcohol fumes these young paddlers would get replaced every 15 minutes. Like they had a watch then!

Noted English Admiral Edward Russel received an order from the King to go to Cadiz, Spain. Being far from his home and family for Christmas Edward became depressed. Even contemplate suicide. But, decided to be a rebel instead. Let’s have a party and charge the bill to the Royal Navy!

This Christmas party lasted for 8 days and nights. 6000 participants took part in the drunken activity. Many inebriated folks jumped into the booze filled garden fountain in clothes and all and just opened their mouth for a drink.

Don’t have parties like that anymore. Cheers!
